"Make your adventure dreams to reality of a lifetime"
Gosaikunda stands as one of Nepal’s most sacred alpine lakes, located high in the stunning Langtang National Park at 4,380 meters (14,370 feet) above sea level. Surrounded by towering snow-capped mountains and peaceful alpine meadows, it attracts thousands of pilgrims, trekkers, and nature lovers every year. Both Hindus and Buddhists deeply respect this lake for its spiritual importance, and adventurers admire its natural beauty and serene atmosphere.
The journey to Gosaikunda starts just north of Kathmandu, Nepal’s capital city. Trekkers travel through small, friendly mountain villages where people live simple, traditional lifestyles. Along the way, the trail winds through dense rhododendron and pine forests. As you walk higher, the forest opens up to reveal spectacular panoramic views of the Langtang Himal, Ganesh Himal, and, on clear days, even the majestic Manaslu mountain range. While Gosaikunda lies within the popular Langtang region, its trail offers a quieter and secluded experience compared to other busy trekking routes.
According to Hindu mythology, the lake formed when Lord Shiva struck his trident into the mountain to release water. This water cooled his throat after he drank the deadly Kalkut poison during the great cosmic event called Samudra Manthan (churning of the ocean). Because of this legend, many Hindus consider Gosaikunda a holy place. Each year, thousands of pilgrims journey to the lake during the Janai Purnima festival in August. They believe that bathing in Gosaikunda’s icy, clear waters cleanses their sins and brings spiritual renewal.
Gosaikunda itself is a beautiful, crystal-clear alpine lake. The calm water reflects the surrounding peaks and the vast sky, creating a peaceful, almost magical scene. Near the main lake, smaller lakes such as Saraswati Kunda, Bhairab Kunda, and Surya Kunda add to the spiritual feel of the area. You will often see prayer flags fluttering in the mountain breeze, placed by locals and pilgrims to bless the land.
The trek to Gosaikunda requires moderate fitness but is accessible to most trekkers who have a few days to spare. The entire trip from Kathmandu and back usually takes 5 to 7 days. During the trek, you will experience a mix of nature, culture, and spirituality. You can stay in cozy teahouses run by local families, enjoy traditional Nepali food, and meet welcoming people who share their stories and traditions.
Whether you visit Gosaikunda for its sacred energy, stunning alpine scenery, or refreshing mountain adventure, it offers a unique and unforgettable Himalayan experience. Here, nature and mythology come together in perfect harmony, inviting you to connect with both the natural world and the deeper spiritual traditions of Nepal.
Upon arrival at Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport, Lhasso Adventure representative will warmly welcome you and transfer you to your hotel. After check-in, take some time to rest, freshen up, and enjoy a meal. In the evening, our guides will provide a briefing on the journey ahead, followed by team introductions and discussions. Later, we’ll head out for a welcome dinner at a local restaurant to experience authentic Nepali cuisine.
After an early breakfast, you’ll drive out of Kathmandu in a private vehicle. The journey takes around 6 to 7 hours, following the Trishuli River and passing through small towns and hills. You’ll reach Dhunche, the gateway to the Langtang region. After a short break, you’ll start a gentle trek uphill for 2 to 3 hours to reach Deurali. The path goes through pine and rhododendron forests.
Today’s walk is peaceful and takes you deeper into the forest. You’ll pass through quiet trails filled with rhododendron, oak, and pine trees. If the weather is clear, you might see the Langtang mountain range. After walking for about 4 to 5 hours, you’ll reach Chandanbari, also known as Sing Gompa. This place is famous for its cheese factory and a small monastery where you can light a butter lamp and enjoy the calm surroundings.
This is one of the most beautiful and important days of the trek. The trail climbs higher and offers wide views of the Ganesh Himal, Langtang Lirung, and other snow-covered peaks. As you go higher, the trees start to disappear, and the landscape becomes more rocky and open. After 5 to 6 hours of trekking, you’ll arrive at the sacred Gosainkunda Lake. It’s a peaceful alpine lake surrounded by mountains. Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims come here to worship, especially during the Janai Purnima festival.
Wake up early to see the sunrise over the lake and mountains. After breakfast, you’ll begin your return trek to Dhunche. It’s a long walk downhill, passing through forests and small settlements. The trail can be steep in places, so trekking poles can be helpful. After 6 to 7 hours of walking, you’ll reach Dhunche again.
After breakfast, you’ll drive back to Kathmandu, enjoying the scenic views one last time. The drive takes about 6 to 7 hours. Once you arrive, you can relax at your hotel or explore more of the city. It’s a good time to buy souvenirs or enjoy a nice dinner.
On your final day in Nepal, following an amazing experience and adventure at Gosainkunda Trek with excellent service from Lhasso Adventure, transfer to Kathmandu International Airport in accordance with your international flight to return home or to your respective destinations.
