"Make your adventure dreams to reality of a lifetime"
The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra Tour Package via Kerung is a 17-day overland journey from Kathmandu that follows one of the most spiritually significant and scenically breathtaking routes in all of Asia. The journey begins with Tibet visa processing and Kathmandu sightseeing, including a sacred Puja and Havan ceremony at Pashupatinath Temple, before the overland drive north through Langtang National Park to the Nepal-Tibet border at Rasuwagadhi. Crossing into Tibet through the Kerung border, the route offers a significant advantage over other entry points: gradual, well-paced acclimatization as altitude increases steadily through Kerung (2,900m) and Saga (4,550m), dramatically reducing the risk of altitude sickness before the Kora begins.
The spiritual heart of the journey is Lake Mansarovar, one of the world’s highest freshwater lakes at 4,590 meters, considered sacred across Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism. Pilgrims perform the ritual Puja and take a sacred bath in its crystalline waters before proceeding to Darchen, the base camp of Mount Kailash, where the south face of the mountain reveals itself in full, humbling glory. The 3-day Mount Kailash Parikrama (Kora), a 52-kilometer circumambulation crossing the sacred Dolma La Pass at 5,630 meters, is the physical and spiritual climax of the entire pilgrimage. Pilgrims who require support may hire a personal horse and helper for the trek. The Kora is demanding but entirely manageable for those who are physically prepared, and our team ensures every step is supported.
Throughout the journey, Lhasso Adventure manages every logistical detail, Tibet Travel Permits, Chinese visas, accommodation across Kathmandu, Kerung, Saga, and Darchen, all vegetarian meals prepared by our own kitchen team, oxygen support at altitude, and experienced guides who have completed this route many times over. Rated 5.0 on TripAdvisor and trusted by pilgrims from across the world, we exist to remove every obstacle between you and one of the most profound spiritual experiences on earth. Explore our full 17-day itinerary and secure your 2026 departure slot before they fill.
After breakfast, we will proceed for the Tibet Visa and then we will arrange a guided sightseeing to explore some major religious and cultural heritage sites of Kathmandu, Patan and Bhaktapur.
Guided sightseeing to Budhanilkantha, a sleeping Vishnu temple, Patan Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage site & the city of fine arts. There will be a detailed briefing on Kailash Yatra and its preparations in the evening.
We will organize a Havan (fire ritual) and Rudrabhishek (ritual offering to Lord Shiva) within the grounds of the Pashupatinath Temple. Following these ceremonies, we will proceed for Darshan (worship) at the Pashupatinath Temple. If time allows, we will also visit other significant religious sites in Kathmandu.
After breakfast, we will complete the border formalities on both the Nepal and Tibet sides before proceeding with our journey to Kerung. The drive is pleasant and offers stunning views of waterfalls and mountains along the way. After a relaxing lunch in Kerung, we will check into a comfortable hotel for an overnight stay. All meals will be provided by Visit Lhasso Adventure’s kitchen.
We will spend an acclimatization day at Saga (4550m/14927.82ft.). After breakfast, we’ll take the opportunity to explore the banks of the Brahmaputra River.
After breakfast, we will proceed to Lake Manasarovar. Today marks our first sight of the sacred Mt. Kailash and Manasarovar Lake from Horre Pass. We will commence with prayers during this initial darshan and begin the Parikrama (circumambulation) of Lake Manasarovar via an eco-tourist bus. Tonight, accommodation will be at a guesthouse in Chiu Gompa. While basic, this overnight stay next to the holy lake promises to be a memorable and spiritually enriching experience.
In the morning, we will perform the Havana and Puja ceremonies followed by a sacred ritual bathing in Lake Manasarovar. Later in the afternoon, we will drive to Tirthapuri, also known as Adi Badrinath, located along the banks of the Sutlej River. Here, we will explore its significant attractions before continuing our journey to Darchen, the base camp of Mount Kailash, offering a close view of its majestic south face. We will spend the night in a hotel in Darchen.
We will drive to Tharboche/Yamadwoar, a significant pilgrimage site for Tantra practitioners. Here, you will have the opportunity to behold the majestic West face of Mount Kailash, known as the Mahakala form. Afterward, we will embark on a trek to Diraphuk, where you will experience a remarkably close view of the North face of Mount Kailash, revered as the Linga form, offering a profoundly divine perspective. We will spend the night in a guesthouse at Diraphuk, ensuring a comfortable stay amidst this sacred journey.
Charan Sparsha Day, when pilgrims traditionally pay homage by touching or prostrating themselves before Mount Kailash’s base, often involves an overnight stay at Driraphuk. Situated at an altitude of 4,900 meters (approximately 16,076 feet), Driraphuk offers pilgrims a strategic resting point before the rigorous trek ahead, including the challenging ascent to Dolma La Pass. The overnight stay allows pilgrims to acclimatize to the high altitude and prepare physically and spiritually for the next day’s journey, which includes significant rituals and reflections amidst the awe-inspiring landscape of the sacred mountain.
Today marks the most challenging leg of the Parikrama. We will commence early in the morning to make the most of the day. The journey involves a 4-5 hour trek to reach the Dolma Pass, or alternatively, a 2-3 hour ride on horseback. Upon reaching the pass, we will visit Gauri Kunda for Darshan, a sacred site near Dolma La. Following this spiritual pause, we will descend steeply to Sabje Zuthuk, where we will break for lunch. Afterward, the trek continues downhill (with the option to use horseback) towards Zuthulphuk Gompa. This monastery will be our resting place for the night, where comfortable accommodations in a guesthouse await us.
The journey from Zuthulphuk Gompa to Tangsar typically involves trekking for about 2-3 hours. Tangsar serves as a meeting point where trekkers then embark on a drive to Saga via Darchen. The drive from Tangsar to Saga spans approximately 300 kilometers and takes around 7-8 hours, depending on road conditions and stops along the way. This route allows travelers to transition from the rugged terrain around Mount Kailash to the more developed areas near Saga, providing a mix of adventure and scenic landscapes throughout the day’s journey.
The drive from Saga to Kerung covers a distance of approximately 400 kilometers (about 261 miles) and typically takes around 8-10 hours, depending on road conditions and traffic. This journey offers stunning views of the Himalayan ranges and allows travelers to experience the transition from the high-altitude Tibetan plateau to the lower valleys of Nepal. Overnight at Kerung.
After breakfast, the drive from Kerung to Kathmandu spans approximately 140 kilometers (about 85 miles) and typically takes around 5-6 hours, depending on road conditions and traffic. This scenic route descends from the mountainous terrain of Rasuwa District through picturesque valleys and rural Nepalese villages. As you approach Kathmandu, the landscape gradually transforms from rugged mountains to fertile farmlands and bustling towns. The journey offers views of terraced fields, rivers, and occasional glimpses of snow-capped peaks in the distance.
