"Make your adventure dreams to reality of a lifetime"
The Upper Mustang Trek is one of Nepal’s most unique Himalayan adventures, taking trekkers deep into the remote trans-Himalayan landscapes of the historic Kingdom of Lo. Located in the rain shadow of the towering Annapurna Range and Dhaulagiri, this region features a striking desert-like environment of dramatic cliffs, eroded canyons, and vast open valleys. Once restricted to outsiders until 1992, Upper Mustang has preserved a remarkable blend of Tibetan Buddhist culture, ancient traditions, and medieval architecture. This trek offers an unforgettable journey through timeless Himalayan villages, spiritual landmarks, and spectacular landscapes, eventually reaching the historic walled city of Lo Manthang at approximately 3,840 meters.
The journey begins from Pokhara and continues toward the Kali Gandaki valley, often starting from Jomsom, following ancient trade routes that once connected Nepal and Tibet. As the trail gradually ascends, trekkers experience a fascinating progression of landscapes—from river valleys and windswept ridges to high desert plateaus framed by towering Himalayan peaks. Along the route, traditional settlements such as Kagbeni reveal narrow alleyways, whitewashed houses, prayer wheels, and long mani walls carved with sacred Buddhist inscriptions. Monasteries, chortens, and hidden cave complexes scattered throughout the cliffs reflect centuries of spiritual heritage. Cultural highlights include visits to ancient monasteries such as Luri Gompa, while the sacred pilgrimage site of Muktinath Temple adds an important spiritual dimension to the journey.
