Overview

The Nepal School Expedition – Kakani is a six-day educational journey that combines community service, cultural immersion, outdoor adventure, and leadership development into one rewarding experience. Designed for school groups, the program encourages students to step beyond the classroom while building confidence, teamwork, and global awareness through meaningful, hands-on experiences.

The expedition begins in Kathmandu, where students explore UNESCO World Heritage Sites and gain an introduction to Nepal’s rich history, culture, and traditions. Orientation sessions prepare the group for the journey ahead while promoting teamwork, responsible travel, and personal development.

Students then travel to the peaceful hill village of Kakani, where they stay at the fully supported Kakani Adventure Camp. Over two days, they participate in a community service project at Kakani Brighter Secondary School, working alongside local teachers, skilled workers, and community members on school improvement initiatives. These shared experiences foster cultural exchange while helping students develop leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

The adventure continues with the scenic Changunarayan to Nagarkot hike, one of the Kathmandu Valley’s most rewarding walking trails. Passing through forests, farmland, and traditional villages, students experience Nepal’s natural beauty before reaching Nagarkot to enjoy spectacular Himalayan sunset and sunrise views. On clear days, Mount Everest can even be seen on the horizon.

Before returning home, students visit the iconic Boudhanath Stupa and Pashupatinath Temple, completing an expedition that brings together education, service, culture, and adventure. More than just a school trip, the Nepal School Expedition – Kakani provides an inspiring learning experience that leaves students with lasting memories, stronger friendships, and valuable life skills that extend well beyond the classroom.

Detailed Nepal School Expedition - Kakani Itinerary

Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, complete immigration and collect your baggage. Our guide will transfer you to your hotel and provide two local SIM cards for the team phone.

Your guide will meet you at your hotel tomorrow morning after breakfast at 8:00 am for a trip orientation meeting.

 

8:00 am – Our guide and team leader will conduct a comprehensive trip orientation, covering logistics, safety, and daily routines.

 

 

Following the orientation, our tour guide will take you to explore some of Kathmandu’s must-see heritage sites, including:

  • Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple)– a hilltop temple offering panoramic valley views
  • Kathmandu Durbar Square– historic royal palaces

3:30 pm – Drive to the project site in Kakani Village (approximately 1.5 hours).

Overnight: Kakani Adventure Camp (luxury safari tents) – Altitude: 1,820m

Today begins with a 40-minute hike from camp to the school.

After breakfast, hike to the project site. Upon arrival, you will:

  • Meet the school community
  • Receive a comprehensive orientation and safety briefing from your guide
  • Tour the school and worksite, including key facilities
  • Meet local skilled workers

All necessary tools, materials, and training will be provided on-site by skilled supervisors. In the afternoon, you will begin introductory work alongside the local team.

Work schedule: Approximately 6–8 hours daily, with breaks for meals and rest.

Overnight: Safari Tented Camp at Kakani Adventure Camp (40-minute walk from the school)

Continue your service project work and enjoy cultural exchange with the local community.

 

In the morning, bid farewell to the Kakani community and drive to Changunarayan Temple, where the hike to Nagarkot begins.

The trail winds through community forests, open landscapes, and small villages where residents rely on farming, livestock, and forest resources.

Upon arrival in Nagarkot, you will be rewarded with incredible mountain views and a spectacular sunset. The panorama to the north-east features the Himalayan ranges with beautiful rural scenery of terraced fields and farmhouses in the foreground. On clear days, there is even a chance to glimpse Mount Everest from Nagarkot.

Wake up early to enjoy a breathtaking sunrise over the Himalayas. After your final breakfast in Nepal, drive back to Kathmandu.

Spend the afternoon touring:

  • Boudhanath Stupa one of the largest Buddhist stupas in the world
  • Pashupatinath Temple– a sacred Hindu temple complex on the Bagmati River

Take time to buy souvenirs. In the evening, transfer to the airport three hours before your departure time for your flight home.
