October 2025 | Kakani School Project, Near Kathmandu, Nepal
In October 2025, the Kakani School Project Nepal became far more than a journey through mountain trails. Near Kathmandu, in the small village of Kakani, this meaningful initiative turned a trek into an act of service — helping build a classroom for a local school while experiencing the heart of community-based travel with Lhasso Adventure.
This experience reminded us that travel is not only about destinations, but also about the people we meet and the impact we leave behind.
Kakani School Project Nepal: Background and Purpose
The Kakani School Project focuses on improving educational facilities for children in a rural mountainous village near Kathmandu. Like many remote communities in Nepal, Kakani faces ongoing challenges in maintaining school infrastructure due to limited resources and difficult terrain.
The goal of the project is simple but powerful: support local education by helping build and maintain classrooms where children can learn in a safe and encouraging environment.
Trekking With a Purpose: Kakani School Project Nepal
This community project was thoughtfully included as part of a broader trekking itinerary organized by Lhasso Adventure. By blending trekking with hands-on volunteer work, the journey demonstrated how responsible tourism can positively contribute to local communities while still offering an authentic Himalayan experience.
For many participants, the opportunity to give back was what made the trek especially meaningful.

Kakani School Project Nepal: The Journey to the School
Carrying gifts and essential supplies, the group walked approximately three miles through mountainous village trails from the campsite to reach the school. The walk itself was physically demanding, especially for those dealing with personal health challenges, yet the sense of purpose made every step worthwhile.
Arriving at the school was a humbling moment — one filled with anticipation, gratitude, and a shared commitment to helping in whatever way possible.

Building the Classroom: Community in Action
At the school site, volunteers joined forces with another group led by Dennis, who is affiliated with Outside Magazine. Dennis had recruited a dedicated team of volunteers who committed to a full week of intense physical labor.
Their work included hand-mixing concrete, laying bricks, and reinforcing the structure with rebar — demanding tasks carried out day after day under challenging conditions. The dedication, teamwork, and resilience shown by this group were nothing short of inspiring.
Their efforts transformed the project from an idea into a solid structure that will serve the community for years to come.

Small Actions, Lasting Impact
Beyond construction, the project also emphasized environmental responsibility. One participant, Kevin, took the initiative to collect garbage along the trail using a trash-grabbing tool, hoping to lead by example and encourage others to protect the area’s natural beauty.
Kevin’s contributions extended even further. He played a key role in establishing and supporting the school’s computer lab and staff — ensuring that the benefits of the project would continue long after the trek ended.

Reflections on the Kakani School Project, Nepal
Throughout the project, participants were surrounded by kindness — from fellow volunteers, local community members, and the schoolchildren themselves. Seeing the joy and appreciation on the children’s faces made it clear how even small efforts can create meaningful change.
The experience was both humbling and deeply emotional. It highlighted the power of collaboration, compassion, and responsible travel in creating a positive impact.
