Among the various festivities celebrated in Nepal, Nag Panchami is an auspicious festival that falls every August. This festival is dedicated to the powerful snakes and serpents, which are often considered important elements in the Hindu religion and are believed to be highly revered, closely associated with the gods.

Lord Shiva is portrayed wearing a snake garland around his neck, and Lord Vishnu is often depicted sleeping on the coil of a snake. Thus, to please the Gods, people worship them. During this festival, pictures of Nags are posted above the doors of Nepali households, with the belief that they ward off evil spirits.

Usually, the priest comes door to door and pastes the Nags with cow dung and sacred grass. Devotees offered milk in the temples and gathered around Nag Pokhari (Snake Pond) and Nag Daha (Snake Lake) in Kathmandu Valley. It is believed that observing this snake festival properly will bring happiness to the Nagas, and in return, the Gods will provide good health and wealth throughout the year.
